In the 1950's Longines supplied watches to the Swiss national airline, Swissair. These timepieces, which had been developed specifically from the brand's aviators' watches, had a very distinctive 24-hour dial. Longines has now re-issued this watch for both historical and functional reasons, as well as for the aesthetic attraction it still holds.
Dubbed "Tourbillon Vendome", it was developed in tribute to the recent opening of the Hublot boutique in Place Vendôme. Hence two small columns can be seen on the dial side (two for 200 years), framing the tourbillon cage. Crafted from bronze, they are perfect replicas of the column in Place Vendôme, which celebrated its bicentenary last December.
