“A unique panorama”

More than 4,000 media representatives – reporters, bloggers, photographers – from all over the world attend Baselworld year by year. What does the show mean to them? Since when have they taken the long way to Switzerland and why? 4 of the 4,000, from Australia, Argentina and the United States, tell us their reasons.

“I’ve been attending Baselworld since 1979, and I still look forward to it every year. Professionally, as a watch reporter, it is indispensable. Baselworld offers a unique panorama on the global watch industry. There are more sources of information about watches and the watch industry at this event than at any other in the watch world. That’s one of the reasons Baselworld is such fun to cover. (The bratwurst sellers are another one.) The show is a treat personally, too, a cherished chance to see friends and colleagues from every continent except Antarctica!”

“Attending Baselworld is a must for us. Personally, this is my participation number 17 as journalist. But Baselworld is also closely related with our own history as a magazine – it was the first one in Latin America to publish news about the Swiss watchmaking industry. This relationship began in 1960, when our founder, Carlos Damián García, attended the “Schweizer Mustermesse Basel” or as we called it: “Feria de Muestras de Basilea” for the first time.
