In the fast lane
The RS19 collection is dedicated to the partnership between Paris-based watchmaker Bell & Ross and the French F1 Team Renault, known for having some of the most daring drivers in Formula 1 racing and for introducing turbocharged technology to the sport. The partnership, which began in 2016, celebrates the fact that the team and the watchmaker share similar values – performance, dedication, technical expertise and courage. Two of the new watches have racing-themed carbon fibre dials that are highlighted with colours inspired by the steering wheels of Renault F1 Team members Daniel Ricciardo and Nico Hulkenberg – drivers who represent a strong new pairing for the team.
The BR V3-94 R.S.19 has the same classic round case as Bell & Ross’s Vintage range, but with a diameter increased to 43 mm, while the BR 03-94 R.S.19 retains the iconic square dial. The dials are made of carbon, an essential F1 racing car material, with highlights that match the team’s black and yellow colours, as well as the red, green and orange colours found on cockpit buttons. The chronograph functions time to an accuracy of 1/8 second over the course of 30 minutes. These two chronographs, the Bell & Ross BR V3-94 R.S.19 and BR 03-94 R.S.19 models, will be produced in limited editions of 999 pieces.
The square-cased BR-X1 R.S.19 opens up the view of the movement with a skeletonised construction in which the movement, dial and case have been pared down to their purest functionality. The case was designed with ergonomic rocker pushbuttons in mind. A rubber-trip function was also integrated into the case to make it easier to operate the pushbuttons. Like the chronograph models, the dial is highlighted by colours that were inspired by the steering wheels of Renault F1 Team members Daniel Ricciardo and Nico Hulkenberg’s cockpit controls. The case is made of lightweight grade 5 titanium, ceramic and rubber, a combination that is engineered to be highly shock-resistant. The layer of ceramic and rubber acts as a peripheral protective shell. A yellow triangular time marker on the bezel helps the team in the pit lane to mark the time when the yellow running seconds hand is stopped following a hot lap. Times can then be instantly compared after a second lap.
