It was just three years ago here at Baselworld that Chanel wowed watch lovers with its first timepiece designed especially for men. The Monsieur de Chanel was all new from the ground up. It had its own design, a new case and movement, and a new audience. Now Chanel unveils the new Monsieur Edition Noire. It boasts an all-black matte-finished ceramic case. It also features a black dial that is accented with a steel window frame for the jump hour aperture at 6 o’clock, and silvered hands for the retrograde minutes and subsidiary seconds.
Like its siblings before it, the 42 mm Monsieur Edition Noire houses the Calibre 1 manual-wind movement that offers instant jump hour indication, and a retrograde minute indication – meaning the minutes are depicted in an arc from zero to 60 and when the hand reaches 60, it automatically flies back to zero to begin its trek again. The movement consists of 170 components and 30 rubies. It is equipped with two barrels and offers three days of power reserve. Just 55 pieces will be made.
