It was 32 years ago, in 1987, that Chanel unveiled its first timepiece. The octagonal watch, called the ‘Première’, was inspired by the bottle stopper of the Chanel No 5 perfume. The famed Place Vendôme in Paris, shaped the same way, was the inspiration for both the bottle stopper and the watch. The Première quickly became an icon.
Since then, its style has evolved and welcomed a host of versions, but this year’s model may be one of the most alluring. The Chanel Première Rock Edition Noire is, as its name suggests, a black beauty. Both the case and the triple-row chain bracelet are crafted in stainless steel with a black ADLC treatment. The sumptuously soft chain bracelet is interwoven with black leather for a look that is luxurious urban chic. Even the dial of the watch is in black lacquer.
Offering hours and minutes, the watch measures a petite 23.6 x 15.8 x 6.2 mm and is limited to 55 pieces.
