Slim and smart
The Geneva-based brand introduced a new movement, its 28th in-house calibre, at Baselworld this year, adding a power reserve function to its FC-703 base. Frederique Constant is also beefing up its Hybrid Manufacture collection, with three new models and two new dial treatments.
The brand’s Manufacture Slimline 50-Hours Power Reserve contains the new in-house automatic calibre FC-723, with a 50-hour power reserve. The power reserve indicator is displayed prominently at the 10 o’clock position on the dial, incorporating a highly readable red sector that indicates when it is time to either wind or wear the watch. Frederique Constant is launching the movement in four new references in the classic Manufacture Slimline collection, in 40-mm cases made of either stainless steel with a choice of silver, dark grey or navy blue dials, or in rose gold-plated steel with a silver dial. The dial is classic and minimalist, with elegant Roman numerals on the centre dial and Arabic numerals on the subdials.
The groundbreaking Hybrid Manufacture collection, introduced last year, combines an in-house automatic movement with battery-powered smart functions, a best-of-both-worlds combination. The Hybrid Manufacture looks like a traditional mechanical watch, with analogue displays and mechanical functions, including hours, minutes, seconds and date display. However, the automatic movement, calibre FC-750, has a battery-powered module added to it that drives a dedicated iPhone app for functions that include activity tracking, dynamic coaching, world timer and sleep tracking. There is even a calibre analytics function that will track the rate, amplitude and beat error of the mechanical movement.
All collected data is saved each time the app is opened, thanks to a dedicated Cloud that is hosted securely on a Swiss protected server. Smartwatch functions appear in a subdial at 12 o’clock. The automatic calibre has a 38-hour power reserve, and the module has a battery life of at least seven days. To keep the power topped up, the watch is delivered in a wooden winder/charger box. The three new models introduced at Baselworld include a stainless-steel version with a silvered dial and two rose gold-plated versions, one with a silvered dial and the other with a navy blue dial.
