Yacht-Master 42: All Sails Set
It was undoubtedly one of the stars of Baselworld 2019. The Yacht-Master 42 is the upshot of Rolex's long involvement with the world of sailing. Here's why.
Fastnet Race, Sidney-Hobart, Giraglia, Les voiles de St-Tropez, Middle Sea Race, China Sea Race, Swan Cup: all major sailing events on the international calendar that have one thing in common: they are supported by Rolex. However, the brand is associated not only with competitions, but also with the prestigious yacht clubs that organise these events. Just like the partnership with the New York Yacht Club dating back to the 1950s, which enabled Rolex to be the first official watch of the America's Cup from 1958 to 1983.
Having been associated with this sailing world for nearly 70 years, Rolex launched the Yacht-Master collection in 1992. It underwent a serious facelift in 2015 with, in particular, the advent of the Oysterflex bracelet. In addition to its 42 mm diameter, unprecedented for this collection, which previously existed in 37 and 40 mm, the new addition incorporates all the latest technical innovations developed by Rolex. Visually, the Yacht-Master 42 is distinguished by its white gold case in combination with a black dial and a ceramic bezel, another first for the Yacht-Master collection.
