Exhibition & Competition

Baselworld welcomes the “Watch Photo Awards”

The sixty best pictures from the “Watch Photo Awards” will be exhibited in Hall 1.0 at Baselworld. Visitors are also invited to participate in this competition in two categories.

Anyone interested in watch photography now has another two persuasive reasons to visit Baselworld this year. The “Watch Photo Awards”, the largest international competition for watch photography, will make a guest appearance at Baselworld: after stops in Geneva and Miami, the sixty best photos from 2018 will now also be shown at Baselworld in Hall 1.0 (opposite to the Carl F. Bucherer stand).

All visitors at Baselworld 2019 are welcome to participate in the competition by submitting their own photos. The best entrants will win a weekend for two at Basel’s five-star grand hotel “Les Trois Rois”!

For the first time in the history of the “Watch Photo Awards”, photographs can be submitted in two categories during the month of March to coincide with Baselworld.

These are the “Watch Photo Awards”

With over 1,000 participants from more than 50 countries, the “Watch Photo Awards” are the first and largest international competition for the art of watch photography. The contest was launched by GMT magazine in collaboration with other media partners in May 2018. Each month focuses on a new theme for which photos can be submitted online. A celebrity jury chooses each month’s ten best pictures. Afterwards the public selects the winner from each group of ten. The “Watch Photo of the Year” is likewise chosen by the public.

Two categories for March 2019

1st category

Architecture

The exhibitors’ stands at Baselworld are often breathtaking. This also holds true for Hall 1, which was designed by the star architects Herzog & de Meuron. This category seeks the best and most exciting photographs of stands’ interiors or exteriors, as well as photos of Baselworld’s halls. A timepiece does not necessarily need to be visible in the photo.

2nd category

Watches @ Baselworld

The focus in this category is once again clearly on watches. Submitted photos should depict mechanical watches (or quartz calibres for ladies’ watches), portrayed in conjunction with distinctive elements of Baselworld, e.g. stands, brand logos or the famous “hole” in front of Hall 1.
