From coral to orange
The Pantone Colour Institute has selected ‘Living Coral’ as Colour of the Year 2019. This gentle shade of coral with a touch of gold is considered to be at once cheerful, dynamic, radiant and cosy. This is also evident in jewellery, wristwatches and gemstones, which conjure up an up-beat and optimistic mood thanks to brilliant sunset colours ranging from festive orange-red to gleaming mother-of-pearl.
Within just a few years, the “Happy Hearts” collection from Chopard has developed into an icon of this Swiss luxury brand. The success is understandable because this heart-shaped jewellery symbolizes the vitality that pulsates in each of Chopard’s creations. New in this year’s collection are two sensual pendants (38 and 47.5 mm in diameter) in 18 karat pink gold with mother-of-pearl hearts. Their colour shades vary in powdery pastels from soft pink to coral.
At Baselworld 2019, the gemstone expert Paul Wild from Idar-Oberstein presented his very own atmospheric sunrise crafted entirely of pear-shaped African tourmalines and a central golden-yellow beryl cabochon from Brazil. Paul Wild combined seventy-one precious stones weighing a total of 176.74 carats to create a fascinating necklace that shines in every nuance of colour from sunny yellow and salmon through pink and powder-coloured to orange.
Carl F. Bucherer
Three new ladies’ chronographs join Carl F. Bucherer’s Patravi line in 2019. One model – the Ménage à trois – has a rose-coloured dial whose expressive colouring is highlighted by a wreath of 56 brilliant-cut diamonds on the bezel. Self-winding Calibre CFB 1956 precisely keeps time in the stainless steel case: it supports the chronograph functions as well as a large date display. The beauty and sophistication of fine watchmaking as practiced in Lucerne are visible through the sapphire crystal back.
The jewellery that Di.Go’s president and designer Valentina Callegher creates for her brand reflects all the attributes of the characteristic “made in Italy” style: classical, charming, high-quality and handmade. Among the new items for 2019 is the romantically inspired “Nanfea” ring in 18 karat pink gold with white brilliant- and antique-cut diamonds surrounding an unusually large (30.04 ct.) conch pearl in the centre.
For more than 170 years, the house of Constantin Wild has offered its clientele superlative precious stones. The outstanding tradition continued this year at Baselworld, where the connoisseur of exquisite stones presented, among other items, a selection of the finest faceted imperial topaz in diverse sizes and shapes. The colour spectrum of these coloured gems from Brazil covers all reddish orange hues from coral through peach to pink.
The Roman watch brand Zanetti is renowned for its handmade timepieces with elaborate, artistically styled dials. Zenetti’s new Gladiator prioritizes the handsome effects of colour. This hue of this model’s guilloche-embellished mother-of-pearl dial contrasts boldly with the colour of the bronze case. A modified ETA automatic movement provides the timekeeping power.
Scheffel from Munich uses corian, a mineral-based substance that plays an important role in interior design, to create pieces of jewellery with a unique aura. For the coral-coloured bracelet, which combines an impressive porcelain-like feel and a high degree of wearing comfort, this unusual jewellery material was combined with precious pink gold and natural brown diamonds. Matching rings are also available in coral-coloured corian.
In the Color Story Cashmere, Tamara Comolli presents the seductive “Cushion” ring, which irresistibly combines 18 karat pink gold and a velvety moonstone cabochon in warm peach tones. The sensual coloured gemstone is further highlighted by diamond pavé with a total weight of 1.5 carats. The scintillating diamonds not only form a sparkling frame around the luscious moonstone, but also adorn parts of the golden ring’s band.
More coral would be impossible. No fewer than ten carats of pink coral adorn the pink hoop chandeliers from the “Signature Collection” of the Sutra Jewels brand from India and the USA. The beautifully cut and variously sized marine beauties dangle from the magnificent earrings like pastel-coloured droplets. Additional elegance is provided by white diamonds (5.5 carats) set in the finest 18 karat rose gold.
The Italian jewellery brand Utopia has captured the beauty and exclusivity of exotic underwater worlds in an impressive coral brooch from the “Masterpiece” collection. This one-of-a-kind piece weds gold with one of the world’s largest spherical pearls: originating in the magic orient, 20 mm in diameter and weighing 55.27 carats, this unique pearl is splendidly mounted in a firework of diamonds and supported by an ancient, unique and extremely rare coral (91.25 carats) from Sardinia.
